I am a fully qualified member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique having completed the STAT. required, three year, full time, training course with Carolyn Nicholls at the Alexander Training College in Brighton.
I hold my Alexander Technique classes at The Helios Clinic, Tunbridge Wells, in Mayfield, East Sussex, and am a Teacher Trainer at the Alexander Training College in Brighton.
I came to The Alexander Technique after suffering from chronic, lower back pain for 25 years. Throughout that time I had desperately searched for a “cure”, visiting Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and an Acupuncturist, all to no avail.
When pregnant with my second daughter a friend recommended the Alexander Technique and I took a series of lessons. I clearly remember the sense of calm lightness that I experienced during and after these lessons despite being heavily pregnant when I stopped. Life then proceeded to take over and I managed to forget the Alexander Technique until my light bulb moment 12 years later when regularly waking up in the middle of the night with my back in spasm. I realized that something had to change as I couldn’t continue the way I was. That something turned out to be me and the way I responded to the world around me.
I then returned to the Alexander Technique and felt the benefits of my lessons almost immediately. I no longer suffered spasms and I threw away the orthotics that I’d been wearing for over 5 years. Once again I experienced the sense of calm lightness that allowed me to learn to move again in a balanced and coordinated way. My pain reduced significantly and should it ever arise I have learnt how to manage it.
I decided to train to be a Teacher of the Alexander Technique as I felt my personal experience with back pain is all too common and I want others to benefit from learning the Alexander Technique.
