My story
I came to The Alexander Technique after suffering from chronic, lower back pain for 25 years. Throughout that time I had desperately searched for a “cure”, visiting Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and an Acupuncturist, all to no avail.
When pregnant with my second daughter a friend recommended the Alexander Technique and I took a series of lessons. I clearly remember the sense of calm lightness that I experienced during and after the lessons despite being heavily pregnant when I stopped. Life then took over and I didn’t return to the Alexander Technique until some time later, actually when the back spasms and chronic pain had once again taken over my life. I realised that something had to change. That something turned out to be me and the way I responded to the world around me. So I then returned to the Alexander Technique and felt the benefits of my lessons almost immediately. I no longer suffered spasms, my pain reduced dramatically and I threw away the orthotics I’d been wearing for over 5 years. Once again I experienced the sense of calm lightness that allowed me to move again in a balanced and coordinated way.
I decided to train to be a Teacher of the Alexander Technique as I realised my personal experience with back pain is all too common and I wanted others to benefit in the way I have.
